Spring Season Lawn Mower Tune-Up Tips

It’s time once again to pull the old lawn mower out of the shed and start cutting grass this spring. Hopefully, your mower will fire up, but you may want to go through a quick checklist to be sure it does.
First, be sure to remove the spark plug and clean it up. If it’s worn down, replace it with a new one. Next, walk behind lawn mowers are known for their dirty air filters. You’ll want to remove the sponge filter and wash it with soap and water. (Let it thoroughly dry before attempting to use.)
Finally, remove the old gas from the tank and put in fresh gasoline. The same with your gas can. Gas goes bad within a few months so you need to be sure it’s fresh. These 3 tips will help insure you have a mower that starts up immediately and gives you another season of trouble free use.
I know what you mean about the gas. I ignored that one year and had a major melt down with my old mower. I never knew that gas could go bad because no one ever talked about it. But it does.
Those are some good basic tips, but you forgot to mention the blade. You should always turn the mower over and check the blade to see if it needs sharpened and that it is tight. Most people never sharpen the blade and it can get pretty dull within 2 years of use.
